South Korea lifts ban on adult sex dolls

The Korea Customs Service has lifted its ban on the import of adult-sized sex dolls.

Technically, sex dolls are not illegal in South Korea, but thousands have been seized since 2018.

In order to block the import of sex dolls, customs officials used a piece of legislation created to protect Korean tradition and culture.

Almost 250,000 citizens signed a petition banning the import of sex dolls into South Korea, arguing it would increase sex attacks.

However, the Customs Services lifted the ban after reviewing court rulings on the subject, and listening to views from various government departments, including the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.

More than 1,000 sex dolls have been impounded by authorities over the last four years. Importers can now retrieve their goods.

The East Asian nation continues to ban dolls that look like real people. This includes celebrity sex dolls.
